Apart from the famous Kilimanjaro which has thousands of hikers every year, there are other peaks such as:
Mount Meru
This is the third highest peak in Africa and is the second highest mountain in Tanzania at 4,568 meters high. Being located within Arusha National Park, it gives hikers a great view of the wildlife in the area while hiking.
If you are planning to climb mount Kilimanjaro, climbing mount meru prior to that is good for acclimatization. It is also a great hiking experience on its own right and once at the summit it gives an unforgettable view of Mount Kilimanjaro and Meru crater.
Oldonyo Lengai
The name Oldonyo Lengai means Mountain of God in the maasai language. It was so called because during volcanic eruptions the local people head rumblings from within, and they thought it was the sound of God.
It is an active volcano located in Northern Tanzania, to the south of lake Natron.
The hiking starts at midnight and watch the sunrise at the summit.
Udzungwa Mountains
Udzungwa mountains national park is located in Southern Tanzania, is excellent for hiking and forest walks.
The most popular hike is up to Sanje Waterfalls (which takes two to three hours) , looking for monkeys, swimming in plunge pools, and enjoying the spectacular view of the park.
The 3 days hike to Mwanihana peak is a little more challenging but is also beautiful, with great mountain top views and lushly waterfalls
